Barracuda’s new 50 metre superyacht

Intent on bypassing short-term fashion and avoiding unnecessary excess, Barracuda’s latest design for a 50 metre motor yacht embodies balance and restraint, with a number of practical layout innovations not seen on other yachts. Designed within the increasingly popular 50m size range, the hull shape could be fairly described as attractive yet understated, with an almost ‘military-esque’ feel about it. Similarly, the superstructure is low in profile and is a balanced and symmetrical design with the sum total adding up to an approach that displays an aura of confidence and control. Entry is made via a starboard side door to a lobby area which leads to the main saloon and dining area on the left, or by turning right down a corridor where four luxurious guest rooms are located.

Instead of locating these important rooms more traditionally on the lower or accommodation deck, guests will delight in the simple, yet pleasant avoidance of having to continually climb up and down stairs to reach the main living and aft deck areas. Positioned higher than normal above the waterline, guest rooms located as they are on the main deck means they will benefit from plenty of incoming natural light. A fact guaranteed in this case, via inclusion of two sets of large ‘seascape’ windows for each room; one set of which can be opened by lowering fully down thus providing full standing height balcony-style vistas for the lucky inhabitants inside.

Then, from a commanding location on the upper/bridge deck and situated amidships for best possible comfort, the owner’s bedroom & lounge suite comprises a large walk-in wardrobe, bathroom and vanity area along with ample aft deck seating, dining and sunbathing space of the utmost privacy. Forward of the owner’s suite, an upper hall provides stairway access down to the main deck or up to the spacious and very private fly-bridge / Jacuzzi deck. Avoiding the need to interrupt the privacy and free-flowing movement of the guests, members of the crew are provided their own separate stairway system that interconnects each of the four decks and the yacht’s main service areas.

On the lower deck level an almost full beam width stern door opens out to form a large swimming platform with boarding steps. Behind this a combined beach club/gymnasium will benefit from an almost 180° uninterrupted view out back. Similarly, as for the guest rooms, this health club & fitness room has large side opening doors that double as stylish windows when closed. Large and useful openings such as these help avoid the often dark & gloomy ‘cave effect’ other beach clubs tend to suffer from, and once lowered can offer yet another amazing perspective on the view. And if there’s sufficient breeze about at the time, a natural cooling effect for those working out hard in the gym!

Forward of the beach club is the main engine room with dedicated engineer’s office. Forward of that, the engineer’s cabin and the yacht’s main service areas; including cold storage, a laundry room and main galley is here, so as not to compromise valuable space taken up by a large galley on the main deck. Last but not least, a comfortable captain’s cabin and a further three double crew cabins en-suite make up the living space intended for a happy and contented crew.
