SAP has agreed a three-year partnership with the Extreme Sailing Series. The software giant, which already sponsors a team in the inshore ‘stadium sailing’ competition, will become the official technical partner of the series. It will provide assistance in analytics and data solutions for fans, broadcasters and teams, including live leaderboards and 3D visualisations. A ‘Race Committee’ app will also be developed for the series organisers to help them coordinate race starts, inform teams of penalties and record results.
SportPro – Mark Turner, the executive chairman of Extreme Sailing Series operators OC Sport, said: “This partnership will enable us to take the event to the next level of innovation, interaction and participation. The work SAP is doing in the world of sailing is exciting for the sport and we are thrilled to be working with them to develop this relationship further. The initial enhancements will already be visible in the next Act in Rio, but will continue to be developed step by step over the three-year partnership.”

The 2012 Extreme Sailing Series season ends this week with the eighth and final act in Rio de Janeiro, the first-ever Brazilian leg of the competition, which runs from 6th to 9th December.
