Ben is ISAF sailoro of the year

Ben Ainslie, the record setting Olympic sailor from Great Britain, won the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year award at a reception tonight (6 Nov) in Dublin, Ireland, as part of the ISAF Annual Conference. Ainslie last summer won his fourth consecutive gold medal at the London-Weymouth Olympic Regatta by winning the Finn class in a tiebreaker over Danish sailor Jonas Christensen. Ainslie and Christensen placed 9th and 10th, respectively, in the concluding medal race, which became the determining factor for the gold medal.

The win cemented Ainslie as one of the greatest Olympic champions of all time. His fourth consecutive gold medal, a run that started at Sydney 2000, equaled the mark of the legendary Paul Elvstrom, who won four gold medals from 1948-1960. It was also his fifth medal overall, including a silver at Atlanta 1996, which equaled a pair of Brazilians, Torben Grael and Robert Scheidt, for most medals ever won in sailing.
