New partner for 34th America’s Cup: sponsor or supplier?

Organisers of the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco have announced US healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente as the latest sponsor of sailing’s most famous event. Kaiser Permanente will provide physicians, nurses and other staff during the Cup itself in September 2013 as well as the San Francisco legs of the America’s Cup World Series which will precede the main event.

“Kaiser Permanente is among the most respected and trusted names in health care, and we are proud to have this important partnership with an organisation that is widely recognized for its innovation in delivering high-quality healthcare,” said Stephen Barclay, chief executive of the 34th America’s Cup. Bernard J. Tyson, president and chief operating officer of Kaiser Permanente, added: “Kaiser Permanente is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to our more than nine million members and the communities we serve, and we are proud to provide our medical expertise and support to America’s Cup.”

The deal follows the appointment of Lexus as the official vehicle and sustainability partner of the America’s Cup and World Series events in July.
