One of the reasons we work in the sport of yacht racing is to visit amazing places and make the most of great sailing weather – right? Sometimes the reality is not so glamourous though. The World Yacht Racing Forum has announced that the 5th edition will be staged in Gothenburg – at the Clarion Post Hotel from the 11-12 December. Perhaps the change of venue for the WYRF is reflective of the way in which the sport of yacht racing is changing. The first two events were staged in flamboyant and glamorous Monaco, the second two in Estoril Portugal next to one of Europe’s biggest casinos and now, the yacht racing industry will head north to a place with a maximum of 8 hours daylight during December to talk about the issues affecting the sport.
