Per la prima volta nella storia della vela una delle principali compagnie di assicurazioni mondiali, la svedese SKANDIA INSURANCE, da sempre presente nella vela, ha partecipato alle Olimpiadi di vela.
Infatti nell’aprile del 2007 è stato siglato un accordo di title sponsoring della Royal Yachting Association’s, la federazione inglese di vela, per il supporto economico alla preparazione olimpica per Beijing 2008 e London 2012…. Il risultato di questo matrimonio economico è stato un assoluto successo; di seguito l’elenco delle classi presenti a Pechino e i risultati ottenuti dallo Skandia Team GBR 2008:

Praticamente Skandia su 11 classi ha ottenuto 4 medaglie d’oro, 1 bronzo e 1 argento.
Skandia già presente nella vela inglese con la sponsorizzazione della settimana velica di Cowes, Skandia Cowes Week, è anche partner nella classe Star di Ian Percy (già timoniere in Coppa America di +39challenge).
Un plauso alla federazione inglese che si è avvalsa di specialisti del fund raising nel campo della previdenza assicurativa per il finanziamento delle proprie campagne olimpiche. E se il successo c’è stato a Pechino siamo convinti che a Londra 2012 non ce ne sarà per nessuno.
Probabilmente il merito è di più ampio respiro; infatti dall’inizio dell’anno il Comitato Olimpico Inglese si è avvalso del supporto di Accenture per la programmazione delle attività di tutte le Federazioni proprio in ottica Londra 2012.
Sarebbe bello vedere un’iniziativa di marketing così strutturata per una delle federazioni italiane e magari proprio per la FederVela.

About Skandia Team GBR 2008
Skandia Team GBR 2008 consists of two squads – the ‘Performance Squad’ currently made up of 46 sailors and the ‘Development & Transitional Squad’ currently made up of 60 sailors.
The Olympics comprise of 11 sailing classes – Finn; Laser Radial: Laser; 470; 49er; Star; Yngling; Tornado; NP RSX (men’s and women’s windsurfers); and two* paralympic classes, the Sonar and 2.4m
Between September 2007 and April 2008 a squad of 18 Olympic and 4* Paralympic sailors will be selected to compete in the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 (18-24th August 2008). Those selected will become members of the British Olympic Association Team GB (the entire British Olympic team of all athletes from all sports) for the Olympic Games.
All other Skandia Team GBR 2008 members not selected to attend the 2008 Games will continue to train and develop ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games 4 year programme. Those not selected can continue to be a part our exploitation programme during the Olympics and can still represent the team in full Team branding.
The RYA also runs ‘Pathway’ activities such as the Youth squad and other nationwide and regional Junior squads which aim to continuously feed into the Olympic classes in order to continue or improve on the current level of success
